GPO import security templates

Security templates are .inf files that contain security settigns.  Security Templates can be imported into a GPO via the GPMC.

To import a security template

  • Expand Computer Configuration/Policies/Windows Settings/Security Settings
  • Right click on Security Settings and select  Import Policy
  • Select template and click open

 

To create a custom security template that can then be exported:

  1. To open MMC
  2. From the File menu, choose Add/Remove Snap-in.
  3. In the Add/Remove Snap-in dialog box, choose Add.
  4. In the list of available snap-ins, select Security Templates, choose Add, choose Close, and then choose OK.
  5. In the MMC main window, under the Console Root node, expand the Security Templates node, right-click the root templates folder, and then choose New Template.
  6. Type a name and description for the template, and then choose OK. This saves your template as an .inf file in the Windows\Security\Templates folder.
